Disney's Christmas Carols
A look back at the most festive animated shorts from the dream factory
To my English speaking readers: since my native language is Spanish, I apologise in advanced for any mistakes that you can find in the English version of this post. Thanks for your support! 😊
Few things come to mind that are more effective at sparking the Christmas spirit than revisiting Disney’s 1983 classic Mickey’s Christmas Carol. This gem, just over 20 minutes long, has for decades brought Dickens’ material closer to audiences young and old, adapting the adventures (or rather, misadventures) of Ebenezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve.
While Dickens originally envisioned a much more sinister and less clumsy Jacob Marley in his ghostly guise, and likely never imagined little Tim portrayed as a tiny mouse, Disney’s adaptation perfectly preserves the message. And it’s not the only piece from the dream factory that has filled us with the holiday spirit.
If there’s one thing Disney deserves recognition for, it’s their historical mastery in creating holiday-themed stories. Whether you’re a fan of the house of the mouse or not, chances are you have some memory tied to one of their animated shorts related to Christmas or Halloween (we talked about this in this post).
So, to rekindle those childhood (or not-so-childhood) memories and to awaken your festive spirit on this December morning, I bring you a selection of eight Disney Christmas shorts you can enjoy on YouTube. This includes the aforementioned Mickey’s Christmas Carol, which you can watch in parts on the platform or find on streaming services.
My recommendation? Save this classic for a rewatch on Christmas morning itself, you won’t regret it.
